The San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild (SJMAG) is a diverse, professional, cross-cultural arts organization that presents traditional and contemporary performing arts in Silicon Valley. Its arts education, artists in residence, arts festivals, and other special events promote awareness of the contributions of artists of color to the diversity and cultural vitality of the region.
SJMAG coordinates the annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event, a month-long celebration that involves all sectors of the community in learning about and appreciating this Mexican cultural tradition. The event starts with a procession to the MLK Library Plaza where attendees enjoy a free festival of dance, music, and drumming, as well as art activities and face painting for children. The DDLM Children’s Culture Camp engages children of all ages in making traditional masks and sugar skulls that are used to create altares at local schools and community venues.
