Founded in 2008, Opera Cultura’s mission is to explore the Latino cultural experience by producing musical theater, engaging the community in its performances, and providing arts education and training programs (such as in-school artist in residencies and the Opera Cultura Summer Conservatory Program).
It accomplishes its mission by supporting and producing the work of composer Hector Armienta, showcasing music by opera composers of Latino/Hispanic descent, and engaging young people in the performing arts through its education programs. In recent years, it has brought new productions to San Jose including La Llorona/The Weeping Woman and River of Women/Rio de Mujeres.
